Well, as you all know by know the president will visit Belgrade, MT which is the site of the nearest airport to Bozeman. I'm suprized it will handle a Boeing747. Maybe he's coming in a smaller plane.

I've seen a B1, 3 C17's and several C130's land at KBZN. (Gallatin Field)

Marine 2 and 3 were also moving around the area today.

Also.. I keep a rifle in my truck all year, and it's not coming out just because a president is coming to town, no matter which side of the fence they sit.

I'm not sure what this remark means: "RWY 12/3 0 FOR DC-10-40 650000 AND FOR B747-100 770000."

Per what I can find, a 747 needs about 6000 feet empty, or about 10,000 feet fully loaded.

But a C130 only needs 1400 feet!

(Add about 20% for safe abort distance)

I see the problem.. the Prez needs a pickup truck with a rifle in the rack, all his very own! That would make him feel at home.

I think there are several thing going on right now in regards to this visit.

1: Obama want's to make an appearance with Max B about health care in Big Sky..
2: The Federal Government is looking at Montana for new development because they have messed up the big cities and we happen to have a little open space that hasn't been wrecked yet.
3: There are rich campaign donors that live (mostly second or vacation homes) in the area, and they want to keep them happy so the $$'s keep flowing.
4: The big O want's to take his family to Jellystone.

Runway 12 and 30 is the main runway at KBZN... 12 facing 120* and 30 facing 300*. (Same runway, but you may land on either side depending on wind conditions..) Not sure what the DC10 40 650000 and B747-100 7700000 other than the DC10-40 and B747-100 being aircraft type.. I'd guess the 650000 and 770000 might be weight?

I've landed at least 300+ times at gallatin field, but again if a guy can't land a single engine piston plane on a 9000' runway he probably shouldn't be flying... So I can't really comment on distances for extremely heavy aircraft, I can set the ones I rent down in 500'..lol

Not sure if AF1 will be landing here or not. I did see 2 Marine helo's buzzing about today, scoping the area and turning erratically.

Would you be able to take a photo of the helo? Or would you get called out like I did the first time I crossed into Canada
"No, you may NOT take a picture of the patrol station, and btw we are taking your apples!"
Hubs was a little peeved at me..... what a tourist!
Of course then I was nervous and recited every transgression since kindergarten. Hence the apple forgo. All I could think about was that movie about the guy in Turkish jail for drug smuggling, I make a bad criminal...
