How do you feel about butte, mt?
Hello, we are considering a move to Butte, MT.
I have a friend that lives there, he loves it.
How do you feel about it? Do you live there?
What do you do for fun in town?

We just came back from Butte. Unfortunately, we were not impressed. The whole town felt dirty and run down. The people were great and the food was terrific. But the town just didn't strike me as my kinda thing. This is just one opinion. I liked Anaconda much better.

We have property just south of Anaconda and love the area. Buy basic items in Anaconda and most larger items in Butte. Anaconda would be my choice and I was just looking at Foreclosure properties and the price on those in Anaconda are very reasonable. Butte has a great down town and antique shops plus most of the larger stores to shop for supplies.

It's "Butte, America", thank you.
I live in Billings, and am biased towards the size and amenities we have here. That said, Butte is OK. Definitely just hanging on (population about 32,500 per official state highway map) but it is located in an excellent part of the state recreationally and is centrally located to just about everywhere and everything in Montana except the farthest reaches of Eastern Montana, and is large enough to provide better medical care than many of the smaller towns around. Major east-west and north-south Interstate highways intersect there. Air transportation is not good. It has a college (Montana Tech), which is always of some benefit to any community. It is a VERY historic town. Lots of old Montana culture there. Actually, I'd rather spend any amount of time in Butte more than Great Falls. Of course, Bozeman or Missoula, and possibly Helena, have more to offer. It's a bit over a mile high. Just west of the continental divide.

The place scares the hell out of me, they have a big white 90 foot statue of christ or something up on the mountain above town and that thing freaks me out. Its just up there looking down at you all the time like your doing something wrong.

Aren't we all doing something wrong ? Here is a picture of the second largest statue in the the USA. It is called "Our Lady Of The Rockies" and it is a statue of the Virgin Mary in all her glory.
Isn't she Butte-T-Full ? !

That statue is so huge it is visible from our property at night.
But our view is great for watching fireworks in Butte and Anaconda without traveling down the mountain.

Butte is pretty amazing. The historic uptown area is fascinating -- I have explored it on google maps street view many times!
