Hey everybody...my husband, 2 children and I are looking at relocating somewhere out west, where my husband is from. We currently live in Missouri and had previously inquired about Bozeman. I would also like information about Deer Lodge/Anaconda. We need somewhere that is good for raising children, has a reasonable cost of living (approx. 600/mo rent), and MOST importantly, has somewhat of a construction industry. (I'm open to suggestions here...) When I say construction industry I don't necessarily mean building million dollar homes. Thats great and all, but where we live work is (very, very, very) scarce and we make our living more so on small projects like building decks, roofing, tile jobs, etc. Mostly remodel work. So anyway, what are things like in Deer Lodge and Anaconda? My husband has had it with the midwest and is ready to go, and I'm always open to trying to things...let me know!

You can get a fact sheet for any location in Montana by going here American FactFinder and input the name of the community for "city/town" (leave out the ZIP Code) and Montana for "State", and then click "GO".

You'll get a lot of demographic, and some economic, statistics for the community you selected, and if you click on "Reference map" (it's on the right hand side), you'll get a map.

Anaconda has a need for qualifed people who know which end of a hammer to use. We have several sub divisons along Mill Creek road as well. Butte is where most of the better contractors are located.
If you take time and search for foreclosures in Anaconda you can actually purchase a place and make house payments equal to what you want to pay for rent.
Also there is a steam plant coming in according to this article
.::The Montana Standard::. (http://www.mtstandard.com/articles/2009/08/26/area/hjjajbhehgghfa.txt - broken link)
so thats got potential for a place to work

Wow, it's so nice to hear something encouraging! We're not looking to get rich, just raise our family and get by. It looks beautiful there...What are the winters like? I realize it will be colder than in Missouri, but how cold? Our Dec., Jan., Feb. temps probably average highs in the low 40's. Is the ground usually snow covered?

Cold? Yes it does get pretty chilly and the snow builds up. July 9th this year we woke to 30 degree temps, but this has been a strange weather year.
Butte has been called among the cold spots in the state

Anaconda itself will be accessible year around, our property is @ 7200 ft and not year around access unless you have a snow cat as the snow can get easily 4 ft deep.

Low 40's? Well I guess anaconda/deerlodge isn't as bad as the front is. I've had family in the Anaconda area since the 20's. Spent my summers over there. It's a nice place with tons of recreation. Deerlodge is not doing so well with Sun Mountain laying so many workers off. Man are they making a bad name for themselves with that! Deerlodge also seems like a drug town to me. Alot of meth goes through that town.
