From what I hear is that too many will raise heck with the elk calfs.
Would be better if nature could control it but I understand that they are reproducing quickly. Not to worry there are always lone males looking for a pack. Good genitic diversity.
I am sure that you will need some cover Griz!

There's too many wolves right now, the numbers need to be kept down. I've friends in Dillon who have lost livestock in much higher numbers this year. I'm just logical about this kind of stuff not emotional. We share the land with wolves so we have to manage them.

I agree, we need to manage them. Just like elk, deer or anything else. We have to watch the numbers and keep them at a number that the land can handle. We have to look at inbreeding, disease, and trouble they cause. I fully believe we need the wolf for a natural balance of things. But in order to maintain and keep from getting over run or under run, we need to manage their numbers.

Forest service, fish and game, have experts that monitor all of those things and they're a whole lot smarter then me when it comes to managing that sort of thing. If they say "thin them out" and set up a season, then I guess maybe we should.

I was first in line this morning at the Fish and Game Headquarters in Helena to buy my tag.
The destruction of elk populations where I hunt is heartrending to observe.
I have my tag and depending on what the eco-wacko judge maloy says today, I will use that tag.
If he shuts down the season again for no reason like last time, I will still frame the tag and regs suitable for display.

The general consenses in this portion of western Montana is: "If judge Malloy doesn't allow the wolf hunting season to go on as scheduled.......the utilization of the THREE "S" RULE will become quite common-place. >>>Management "one-way-or-the-other"<<<.

Leave the wolf alone and a healthy ecosystem will follow. Sorry about the livestock. Move to where the land supports livestock. Wolves keep the coyotes and other predators in check.

You didn't seriously open a thread on wolf hunting and expect people to be nice did you? j/k

If we protect the wolves and just let them take livestock like another posted suggested, maybe we should also protect the pine beetles, they are a natural creature too, after all it's not their fault that the forests are dying and turning into tinder boxes.. Sorry about the trees.

Oh wait, the beetles are not cute and furry..

(For the slow ones, the above message has been laced with bio friendly sarcasm...)

I'm not putting in for a wolf tag, as I like to hunt for food mostly.. (although I might go bear hunting one of these years... always wanted to do that.) At the same time if I saw one messing with our cows, I wouldn't hesitate to shoot it, just like we do with coyotes.

Want to tell how is works? Sex, (now you know what I mean) age, size? How is it determined?
Should be challenging just tracking them. Pretty exciting, not exactly a deer in the open field
