Flames were 40' high if they were an inch. Found out that the moron just over from me was cutting wood and set the saw down in the pine duff and went in the house for something. When he came out a few minutes later the fire was blazin and blazin good !

The fire dept was on it quick. Heli was raining on it and they had it contained pretty well within 45 minutes. Wife was all freaked out... What an afternoon. Just a few minutes later and if it got into the thick mistletoe my house would most likely be GONE this very minute.....
I'm glad you and yours are ok!

YIIIIY !!!!!!! that's why when I'm cuttin' wood, the chainsaw sits down on bare dirt or a cinder block or a shovel. Mine is a wee little thing and doesn't get real hot, but no sense tempting fate.

Mistletoe is a nasty parasite. Kills the tree eventually, when it dies it dries out into the worst sort of tinder, and meanwhile isn't food for much of anything else.

Glad your house is safe. Hope the neighbour learned his lesson!!

What I don't understand is this guy has lived here forever and clearly knows the ins and outs of the game. Can't figure for the life of me what he was thinking when he set that saw down like he did and left it...

Ya... thank goodness everyone was alright and everything worked out for all on the hill here as things were taken care of promptly by the fire guys.

The last fire up here a couple years ago, lady caught her house on fire with the wood burner and it wasn't taken care of period ! Fire dept didn't want to chain up to go off the county road through the snow and they ended up letting the house burn out. Everyone here was in an outrage over that. Wasn't fire season, didn't endanger anyone else and weren't going to deal with chains... was the story I got about the situation from more than one on the hill.
