Kind of a specific question.
I have a list of a few names that I am considering.
I was curious if anyone knew of a good Dr. that specializing in Endocrinology.

I live in Sheridan,Wy, but I have to drive up to Billings to see a specialist and wanted to see if there was a recommendation of someone who is very knowledgeable in that area.

Thanks for any help and suggestions

Well they have about any religion one wants over there in Billings. Never heard of Endocrinology but if its anything like the scientology thing then you might be in luck, I heard they were having a "getaway" weekend over at the golf course in a few weeks.

If this endocrinology is one of those religious groups who plays with snakes and sings bible songs and all that then you may have to go a little further south and east. We do have some youngsters who like to go down to the pond and catch snakes and stuff but they don't hardly know the bible and they can't sing.

Good luck.

Kristyn,
You're in luck, I do believe. Dr. Laura M. Ferries, the first one on Elk Hunter's list, sees patients a day or two each week in Sheridan. I've seen her a few times and have been satisfied. I've been seeing endocrinologists for 20 years, and she seems as good as any. She's also very personable.

Thanks a bunch Elk! I am considering all of those Doctors actually just trying to narrow down the best person for my approach and issues.

There is a brand new Doctor up in Billings too I am considering, that is even more specialized. He's a Reproductive Endocrinologist, so he could address my thyroid as well as other issues too.. His name is Christopher Montville, MD, MS , he's associated with the "Endocrine society" but I don't see any association with the American Association of Endocrinologists.

At my GYN's office I was told about Dr. Laura Ferries, and that she comes to Sheridan.

But I am wanting the top Dr out of this list, because none of mine will agree with each other in Sheridan LOL.
I am not opposed to Naturopathic or Osteopathic Dr's either. I am very in to alternative medicine as well as conventional.

I found a couple ladies up in Billings that are ND's aka Naturopathic Doctors,
this lady specifically I am curious about; Roberta Bourgon, V. N.D., Wellness Center 19 North 25th St, Billings, MT.

Just a thought, but if you trust your current doctor, I'd take the list to them and ask them if they know of any of these doctors and if they do, what do they think of them? Course, they're going to give good reports on any doctor you show them because, well, they stick together. So have some good questions ready like, "What makes that doctor so good in your mind?" "Do you know of anything special they have accomplished?" "Do they have a good track record?" Etc....

It's your health damnit, make them come up to your standards. Your paying them, they work for you.

I get so sick and tired of the attitude of "I'm a doctor, what I say is golden, how dare you analyze what I say?"

WyoNewk, is she very cutting edge and up to date in your opinion?
I have been subclinical hypothyroid for many years, every since giving birth to my daughter. I am just now starting to see my TSH aka Thyroid Stimulating Hormone elevate above normal according to the last diagnostic standards put out by the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology. However as I have read online and experienced first hand, only half the doctors and labs in this country are up to date. And the standards changed 6 years ago back in 2003!
My primary care doctor said if my TSH got above 3 she would suggest medication, according to the new standards. This past year was a watch and see, because last year I was at 2.75, but over the years I have steadily been climbing and my TSH is getting worse each year, so have my symptoms. Sadly my husband and I have been trying for a second child unsucessfully for 3 years, I have gone to 5 different doctors during this time period in two different state and none of them have a general consensus. So at this point I am looking for a top notch specialist that is up to date on the latest standards.

Not sure if you have a Thyroid condition? I am assuming you have some sort of a Endocrine condition since you have seen Dr. ferries.

Here are links about and to latest standards if you are interested.
Does Your Doctor Know About the New TSH Lab Standards?

AACE Newsroom: Over 13 Million Americans with Thyroid Disease Remain Undiagnosed (http://media.aace.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=4584 - broken link)

According to these up to date standards I am now in the abnormal range.
But just barely over the range, I am confident after the progression of my symptoms and TSH changes I will continue to watch my TSH levels get worse, because they have consistently since 2006.

Anyways, that's why I need a very informed physician. Because each one has their own standards and in the mean time I am struggling to the symptoms.

Thanks for any input you have

You just hit the nail on the head! That's the attitude doctors have and I can't stand it. In spite of what my writings here might indicate, I am an educated and intelligent person. I HATE it when doctors pretend to be smarter than me. We see this in other profession as well but not as much as we do in the medical field, they have an arrogance thats hard for me to take. They are our employees but they don't seem to know this.

LOL I so agree with you. Sadly none of my doctors can come to a consensus on my diagnosis. So I am kind of stuck with word of mouth advice at the moment.

The sad thing is I told my current doctor actual names of medical associations, and diagnostic standards and it's like they were deaf and didn't hear a word I just said. I wanted to scream hello, are you listening to me! You won't even go investigate the latest standards to see if I am correct? I then told them my primary care physician's opinion, of which they pretty much didn't even acknowledge. That is not the first time either, one of my previous appointments they openly disagreed with my primary Dr and told me they did. Didn't give a complete reason why just said they did. Makes a person wonder ya know...
