Default Young family moving to Helena in December!!

My family and I are planning on moving to Helena in December. We are really excited about leaving the plains of North Dakota and experience "Real" mountains. We've never been to Helena before and are just wondering what the city is like. I've been to Butte and Missoula many times and wonder if Helena is anything like either of them. We are going to rent an apartment called Alamanor on Missoula Ave. If any of you know anything about this apartment complex or Helena in general please reply. Everyone that I have talked to about Helena said that the area around the capital is nice but the other parts of the city are not so nice. I love Montana and was very excited to get a job in Helena. Thanks!

Helena, Missoula and butte ! You couldn't have picked three towns that are more different from each other. Helena has a beautiful civic center building and really nice old houses in the older parts of town. Missoula has been CalifOregonated and Butte is a Butteifully preserved museum of a Montana mining town. I think you will like Helena and being from N. Dakota I think you'll like the climate too.

I really hope so! Its always difficult moving to a new area, especially when you have never been there before. Whats the weather like? In North Dakota its very cold and windy, I've heard that the weather in Helena is not so bad. They get a lot of snow but its not super cold. How are the summer months, hot and dry or hot and muggy?

It can get very cold and windy in Helena but maybe not quite as bad as N.D.
About summer humidity, that really depends on where the air is coming from, it can be slightly muggy at times but you can check all that info on City-Data's main home site.
I think living in Helena would be great but I'm priced out of there and live up in the high-line region off the front. We get a lot more wind than Helena and a bit colder too. As long as you like your new job and make enough money to afford to live in a decent house rather that an old beat up trailer with tweekers for neighbors you will most likely love Helena. We used to go to a decent Mexican restaurant on the west edge of Helena called Emilianos, I wonder if it's still there.
Welcome to Montana and welcome to the City-Data Montana forum.
