In regards to your question, you know the world is full of all types and Montana is no different.
Are you interested in a particular region? Lots of different temperature ranges. Good luck and hope we hear from you.

katbhappy is on a distinguished road
Hi, We have been looking at the Bitterroot Valley as a possible place to make our next move. We are in our 50s and have lived outside of cities for a long time. Everyone tells me, including the chamber of commerce that the Hamilton area, Victor, etc. doesn't get much sun in the winter. Like only 55 days of sun! Is that accurate?
Kat

Hey Kat.................

Just to give you "a little up-date" on the current weather in the Victor area. (Now make sure "the wife" gets to read this too!!")

My location approx 3 1/2 miles south of Victor and approx 1.8 miles west of Rt 93.

Temp right now is 34F; been snowing off and on for about 4 hours; ground is all white. Low tonight about 20 (also for tomorrow night) day highs about mid 30's. Low for Fri and Sat night(s) down to about 4F above. More snow tonight and all of Friday....should have 2 to 4 " accumulated by then.

If you have any pets, be advised................. I checked with a neighbor this noon, just to be neighborly........ His wife just got a new kitten about 2 weeks ago. Today it became dinner for a Great Horned Owl. He told me his son-in-law lost an (11) month old Golden Retriever to a wolf last week.

Also, don't believe everything the CofC in Hamilton tells you.........it's their job to make "everything smell like roses". I've been here full time over 30 years....love it to death..... Make sure "you do your homework".

Back in the 70's my wife and I made 15 trips up the the BR Valley before we bought our land in 1976. We also made sure we were here for a week or more in every month, so we personally knew what to expect.
Edit: Moved here from Colorado----it was getting too crowded and loaded with people who wanted to change things to be like where they came from". Yea, they succeeded!!!!!! Same thing happenin' here,
but, you know....when you get quite a ways past the middle of your eighth decade......you just kinda enjoy watching some folks "learn everything the hard-way".

CARPE DIEM.

Just some thoughts.

How's the weather out there in Grass Valley?

The Horned Owls are really fierce. I saw one once near a grain elevator and it had both talons in an unfortunate cat. I gave it a wide berth.
Don't see many strays of any type over here,

Are you serious? They can pick up cats? Dang. That would be quite a meal for an owl. I had an owl in Alaska come down and drive my dog into the ground, he actually hit him three times on three different days. That poor little dog hated going for walks, he'd get nervous and start panting when I'd get ready to go. I finally stopped taking him he was so scared.

Even barn owls will take cats. Any cat with white on it lasts exactly one night here in the desert. People here have had owls take cats in broad daylight. (Tho I will say part of the problem is the puny cats in SoCal -- average size under 6 pounds. Some of my barn cats are barely 3 pounds full grown. The rabbits are bigger!)

Owls actually have very poor vision, and will try to take anything that looks vaguely like a rabbit, moves like a feeding rabbit, or shows a puff of white. When owls get into Lockheed's big hangars (and make a mess on the research aircraft) the standard way of catching them for ejection is to stuff a white sock (with towels or anything soft, just to puff it up), tie a rope to it, and drag-jerk it across the floor a few times. The owl will try to take it, get its talons tangled up in the sock, then it can be caught and pitched outside.

Ok this is gonna be a bit crazy and just so ya all know yes the name is amyflorida but we are keeping all options open.
Their is a wonderful job that we were considering applying for, it pays about 85 to 115,000 yearly plus bonuses.
We are a married couple w/2 kids 9 and 13, and 2 dogs and after reading about the one post yiks it freaked me out. Our dogs are a part of our family so wherever we in the US we need a fenced in back yrd. lol.
Is this amount with just this income work in Montana?? And wondering about school systems and my children making friends.
This position is in Bozeman Mt.
We are gonna rent for awhile where ever we end up so between rent and reg. bills, just wondering if this income would be sufficiant?? Thank You

The owl wasn't flying away because he was dining on the cat's brains.
Still when one flies over head about 10 feet it is quite a downdraft. I keep the doggies pretty close.

Seven stores this information for future use....

I never considered that I rarely see any type of white cat around. Interesting.
