We are a married couple w/2 kids 9 and 13, and 2 dogs and after reading about the one post yiks it freaked me out. Our dogs are a part of our family so wherever we in the US we need a fenced in back yrd. lol.
Is this amount with just this income work in Montana?? And wondering about school systems and my children making friends.

Open range
Watch out for areas that are Open Range, meaning livestock can meander onto the roads. Although they can do that even when there is fencing to keep them in.
Also watch for sheep or cattle drives in the spring and fall. One time somewhere on the hi-line, I had to wait 2 hours while they moved the cows to summer range. Don't try to drive through them--you just make the animals (and cowboys) upset.

If you hit livestock meandering across roads on Open Range you will be financially liable for the harm to that animal. Be careful!!!

Moving to Montana has been a dream of my family for many years. My fiance and I had the amazing opportunity to see much of Montana while traveling with the job we had at the time. We drove all over Montana for 2 weeks and saw how incredible your state is...enchanting and majestic. I cried for hours when we were driving away. We vowed to return to live as soon as we settled.
That was 2 years ago. Now we have a wonderful lil baby! And we want to raise her in the most beautiful and wonderous place on earth. The people of Montana were so friendly and welcoming...It was so hard to leave.
We have lived in Texas our whole lives. We are small town people with small town values. When we come, we are bringing my mother, my sister, my nephew, 12, my neice, 4, along with my fiance, my 7 month old daughter and myself....also our 2 dogs...
We are avid wildlife lovers! And are hoping to move within the next 4 to 6 months. We can't afford to buy a place yet. We are looking to rent...I'm not sure where in Montana we want to live, but I remember Thompson Falls and how wonderful it was. But everywhere was heaven.
We don't want to live in a big city...like I said, "small town folks with small town values". But it'd be so wonderful if we could find a place right on the outskirts of a relatively small town at least... Somewhere that my single sister can maybe meet a nice guy in the mid 30's or 40's. lol...any ideas?
I don't know anyone from there, so I'm hoping to construct a few connections from this...We truly appreciate any feedback and help that we can get...We are christian people and it'd be nice if there was a good church to attend and participate in activities and meet people once we get there....wherever there is...cuz we are comin!!!

Lol montana bound
Yeah, enthusiasm is a huge understatement! lol. My sister and I have jobs on the computer at home. We are medical transcriptionists. We can travel anywhere and we will be employed no matter what! Which will help out profusely with our move to Montana. We can live off of what her and I make at home. We will be looking for a job for my fiance, tho.
Thanks for replying to my post! This is so exciting! I know it's hilarious for you, but it really is the kinda dream that makes your blood rush for me and my family...
Montana is WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE!! And I can't wait to experience it from a home-bound view!!!!
We know it ain't gonna be easy...but we are all really hard workers and we will do what we can to make this dream come true. I know, I'm a nerd...

Need 3 bdrm house on outskirts of small town
Sorry bout the lengthy posts! I will make them short and direct from now on!
We are looking to rent a 3 bedroom house that accepts pets (dogs), on the outskirts of a small town, that is around the mountains in Montana for around $500-600 per month. It would be nice if the town had a few places such as a coffee shop or a church or somewhere that the townspeople get together and socialize so we can meet those that will be our "neighbors".
It doesn't matter if the house or land surrounding the house needs a little work. My fiance is a carpenter and basically a-jack-of-all-trades.
Is this price realistic? and do you have any suggestions?

You will need internet service yes?
That will narrow it down a bit.

Hey Montanadreamers................
The following may have been posted in the recent past, but I think it only right that I post this little bit of "important" Montana 'Bear' info:
After you arrive in Montana, I'm sure you will be "chomping at the bit" to get back into the "boonies" (deep woods, dark canyons etc) and see what wildlife you can encounter. When I bought my small piece of Montana back in 1976, the guy I hired with a D-6 to cut in my access (2100 feet) from the county road, gave me the following info:
What "bear pooh" looks like:
Black Bear: A pile of "log-shaped" pieces (approx 1 1/2 " dia), usually a dark 'blue/black' color, usually containing remnants of berries, grasses, roots and maybe parts of ground squirrels and/or pine squirrels.
Grizzly Bear: Same kind of pile and color (but 50% larger). Usually containing remanents of berries, grasses, squirrels, marmonts and also
several "small bells and other noise making items", plus giving off a strong odor of "Bear Spray".
Sweet Dreams
