Check out these ice covered power lines, Woohoo ! I've seen ice on lines that had built up so the line looked 3 inches in diameter in N.C. and I have heard it can get bad all over the eastern U.S. but I rarely see really bad ice build up like that in Montana yet. I'm sure it can get bad in Montana but I just haven't been anywhere yet that gets it like the eastern half of the country. I like the pic of the ice still hanging onto the street sign.

The pictures are great.
I appreciate the information on the ice in MT. When moving to a new area, you never know what to expect. But having lived in Western PA, OH and MI, I have great respect for how bad the weather can get, and how dangerous the roads can be. But MT is not OH weather. After having lived in S. FL for the past 30 years, it has been drilled into our heads at the beginning of hurricane season to get emergency supplies in place early, as once the weather turns bad, the stores are jammed with people and you may not get the supplies you need.

Damn, whatever. What would happen if I said eating at McDonalds makes a person fat. City Year, ACORN, SEIU, and any other radical neoliberal Obama Youth Brigade are not persons, but organizations. I'll go back to the real Montana, not a Montana which demonizes conservatives and others who don't support zuzzy hippie Obamanite organizations.

AmeriCorp was formed in 1993, Obama took office in 2009, so out of the sixteen years since it was formed George W. Bush was President. So I think it would be more appropriate for you to refer to it as the Bush Brigade.

Bush wasn't a conservative either. Anyways, I think most Montanans are against radical liberal socialists, or at least I hope they are awake.

I wouldn't define helping children in need as a radical liberal socialist. Do you even have a clue about what these programs are about, what they do?
Last time I checked giving a person in need a helping hand was not a bad thing.
But maybe that is really where you and I are so different, I come from a long line of Americans who fought for and in some instances gave their lives for this country.
I also like to give when I can to food banks, to help people in need have a meal, to help children have something for Christmas; which is why I also give to Toys for Tots and the Salvation Army.
We work hard, we pay our taxes and mind our business and we care about other people. And we fight and die for our country. We are Americans!

Take this to dm's. The Montana thread is not the place to carry on a political debate that is NATIONAL and not Montana specific.

Black ice is sketchy for me as I don't use studs but snow packed roads are a blast to drive on with good newer snow and mud tires.
One thing to remember is that a 4x4 accelerates much better in snow than a 2 wheel drive even if the 2 wheel drive is a front wheel drive vehicle. When it comes to stopping though, 4x vs 2x won't make any difference, stopping quickly in the snow is all about the traction of the tires and the skill of the driver. All vehicles with four wheels have brakes in each wheel. As far as driving cars in the snow goes, Subarus rule.
