I agree that we are blaming all the "growth" on the wrong people. A lot of what happened in Washington was every one seeing dollar signs. No one stopped to think about all problems it might create. I met with a real estate agent in Montana this weekend and they said something to me about wanting to bring more people to the area. I said no, that's why I want to move here, to get away from people. So there you go, once again a person seeing dollar signs and not what could happen to a beautiful area by "bringing people in".

While reading post from the most negative forum, of all the states Montana, It makes me wonder what has happened to the education system here. The number one problem,
severe overpopulation seems to be missing.
I am sure that a good number of posters, know what the population of the USA was in 1960. I am also quite sure the same folks must know what the population is now.

I ask you all; Where shall we hide another 50-60 million people. Maybe we could stack them up like cord wood at the Montana borders waiting for the counties to fumble around with growth policies. You say, but their attitude stinks. What if your Grandpappy
decided to follow the gold rush to California instead of heading for Montana to grab as much free land as he and his 15 kids could manage. Can we help where were born.
Do you really think that Montana "natives" have the right to complain about newcomers.
Maybe a geneolgy study should be done to find out who's forefathers fought the British.
Maybe a few New Yorkers and Californians would be just as intitled to settle in Montana
as any one born here. Attitude? I have been her long enough to see bad attitude from
everyone. A million ants can get along fine in a 4ft pile of dirt because they follow the rules. People are not going to go away, so lets follow the rules of man, that we have made, and make a few more if needed for growth, but follow those rules also.
Every one might make a great ant hill to live in someday.

I agree, great post. Unfortunately the nay-sayers on this forum have no interest in listening. For them, it's more fun to vent.

OK, So I'll vent a little ......

First off, speaking from myself to reply to what someone said......I don't dislike newcomers on a personal basis, no matter what state they are from, just made a new friend, he grewup in Calif, and he is quite pleasant.
What I resent is what is happening to Montana as a result of 'growth' - which in most part due to the influx of people.
Now second off - I think people have all the right to complain about what ever they want, if Montanians wanna' complain about Califs - go ahead, if Califs wanna' complain about Montanians - go ahead. So what, I don't see where that precludes any or us from being decent to each when we meet on the street.
With that said - I will state my usual position, and it's not a complaint, it's just my position: For anyone that wants to move to Montana - I would encourage you to seek out other nice places in the country to live, there are many other beautiful areas that actualy are nicer and cheaper than Montana. Montana, especialy western Montana which is nothing like what it use to be, and it certainly, currently, is not a true representitive of it's past romantic reputation. Simply put, it is not what people imagine it to be anymore. Western Montana is not small quint towns, peacefull fly fishing rivers and the like, what it is, is housing developements, traffic, shopping malls, hobby ranches for the rich and rivers crowded with fishing guides, just to mention a few attributes of life in now-a-days Montana. And oh by the way, it is becoming more such that way everyday. The buidling of housing developments and strip malls continues, everywhere you turn, another pasture or tree'd lot is being dug up. True there are some quite spots left in western montana, but you usually don't have to look to long or to far from them to see the development that is closing in on them too.

I couldn't agree with you more; my husband and I would like to find a nice rural lifestyle. I am so tired of all of the craziness of big cities. I used to live in a small town of approximately 36,000 - 40,000 and it was perfect size but I hated all of the rain. It would start raining in September and keep going until June. I would like to find a small town with a friendly feel that has four seasons. Does such a place exist??? I am an RN so I can live any place there is a hospital.

Sure places like that exist. We live outside a town of 3,500 (Columbia Falls), is that small enough? Kalispell is 15 miles away (pop 20,000) and Whitefish (ski resort area) is 15 miles the other direction. While it's beautiful here I need to move to warmer climes so it's time to sell and go south.....
