Yuck... couldn't stand the man...... when I worked in Hollyweird, I learned a few things about actors:

Most TV actors, what you see on-screen is almost their real life personality -- except for the comedians (film or TV). The comedians are uniformly self-centered A-holes of the first water. The only exceptions are those that are in fact serious actors, but do comedy on the side (e.g. Martin Mull, who is one of the nicest people I've ever met).

Lagarto is on a distinguished road
Some of the resentment towards out of staters is justified when you do see the exorbitant cost of housing, land, taxes, etc. It is also justified when some of the people who have moved there are extremely rude, and as one person said, want all of the conveniences they had in the big cities. However, the plus to this is, some of the places need people from out of state as they are so backwards and have no concept of an outside world. So you do take the good with the bad.

And who's to say "some of the places" are the backwards ones and could use city people to "make things better" ? Maybe it's the big city people who are all backwards and such... after all they are the ones with all the problems and in constant need of intervention by some kind of organization for some kind of collective social ailment. That's the other way to look at it !

I know what your saying though... I'd be one of the first to criticize to myself the backward, hermit, cave dwelling individual but I also ask myself at the same time if they have it more right than I or anyone I wouldn't otherwise criticize does ?!

Or maybe it's that these "backward" places are more like the Amish, who grok the "outside world" perfectly well, but choose not to become like it.

Ric Carter is on a distinguished road
I can give an example of resentment. There are some new people moved in from the coast just up the road from me. They have been clearing dead trees, infested with mistletoe. They then would pile the infected material on their truck, and head for the dump, without securing it. So, there was this trash all over the road from their place, to the dump six miles away. And this is not small pieces, they are large nasty intertwined limbs, that are hard to remove from the roadway.
Not being happy with that mess, they were also hauling moving boxes and other such things, once again not secured, and once again, strewn from their place, to the dump. I was quite happy to see a deputy back track them, and leave them with a hefty ticket for littering.
This type of trashing is common from those who come here to "get back to nature".
Another problem, is when people move to the country, they think they can let their dogs run free. You can't. Regardless of the fact that you may think little Muffy won't chase deer, livestock, and cause problems in general, they do. One neighbor shot 37 dogs one summer, that were harassing his livestock, all from a housing development that had sprung up. People complained, the sheriff told them, "Tough luck. Keep your dogs home".

This type of conduct has nothing to do with "getting back to nature". It's just being plain ignorant, stupid, lazy and simply disrespecting the environment. And those kinds of people are everywhere and were always like that... they didn't just get that way from moving here !

Anyone partaking in these kinds of practices need to be ticketed and the maximum penalty allowed by law for the infraction needs to be enforced ! Then maybe the environmentalist would have less to ***** about too .

we have the same problem. People move to a rural area and one of the frirst things they've promised the kids is a dog but then they let the dog run loose. Or they have a dog, and once they've moved here, they think the rest of us are delighted that their dogs roam all over the countryside.

Case in point, a guy who moved here with a Samoyd. Beautiful dog. Helped himself to the chickens here and everywhere else. I love dogs. When farmers tried to tell him to keep his dog home, he'd been quick to interject with how lovely it was that the dog wandered from farm to farm 'greeting' people. No one came flat out and told him that his dog would end up with a bullet in his head because of course, no one knew who would end up having to do it, and that later, ahem, that conversation might be remembered. But they did everything short of that.

From chickens the dog moved on to calves. It was impossible to catch the dog. We are a little further out of town than other neighbors, a little more secluded. The lost dog ads ran for months. He couldn't have been warned more or had more chances than he'd had. But I still feel badly about it since all in all, I'd take a dog as a friend over a person any day.

As a professional dog trainer, I say the same thing. Dogs don't need to run loose all over the countryside. If I can keep 50-60 dogs home, you can keep 1 or 2 or 3 home. And if your dog harrasses my livestock or destroys other property, it is damaging my livelihood and I have the right to protect that. I may feel bad for a dog whose owner is that stupid, but a stray dog chasing stock is no different than if someone's kids came to my house and broke my windows just because they could.

Agree with you completely. It is a shame when a loyal and trusted companion is injured or shot due to the stupidity or laziness of the owner.

Just as an aside, what breeds of dogs do you train and what do you train them for? hunting? field trials? obedience? I looked up your profile picture to get a clue and that dog is definitely "off the medication".
