That forecast was right on for Conrad. I just checked two sources and they both said it is -31 with a 5 mph breeze so accounting for wind chill that would be -45 and my wife's Toyota Camry didn't want to start so she just bundled up and walked to the store. She is mostly Scottish and I call her a thistle head for insisting on going but it's only a block and a half and after all she is a tough old thistle head so she should be fine ! I hope.

She just walked in the door and said it wasn't bad at all, she even turned down a few offers for rides from folks at the store.
See I told you she was a tough old thistle head !
All that for a twelve pack of RC Cola !

I would do something like that, (probably not in that cold of weather) but it usually had more to do with having a case of cabin fever, and needing to get away from the other people in the house more than needing something from the store.

Glad she got home safe.

When we lived in AK, both the hubby and I would walk to work in the -45 temps, especially when we couldn't get the snowmachine cranked. It actually wasn't that bad- we knew how to bundle up real good! It would still be dark when we started out each morning, but what lights there were along the way lit up the snow such that it looked like diamonds gleaming there on the ground. It was truly beautiful...made ya forget about that moose or bear lurking just behind the next tree! LOL!

What's funny is, we're not in the worst of it yet. It doesn't get bad until the end of January, first of February.

This is just a sampling.

I borrowed this cute fellow from the Oregon weather thread
My kido out there is suffering some 30 degree weather.
Here? Well it is a balmy -17 but not too windy I now understand the value of wool. Stay warm neighbors.
