Does anyone know if the 911 system in Montana has converted to 911+ system.

My son who is a Firefighter explained to me that in recent years, most towns and cities have converted to the 911+ as it can locate where the call is coming from within 10 feet.

This is helpful when someone is reporting an emergency using a cell phone and they don't know their exact location.

I don't know about 911+, but we do have reverse 911 where an automated message like an Amber Alert or Danger from XXX can be sent out to all phones within a specific area.

You may find the 911+ in some areas with more cell towers for triangulation, but a lot of Montana has very limited coverage because of the low population densities. If you only have 1 or 2 towers in an area and they are 50 miles apart, you can't triangulate the signal for precise positioning.

There may be some of that around Billings or Bozeman or Missoula, but I work with a volunteer fire department and have not heard of it being enacted in any of the districts I am familier with.

Good idea though, and it would be really useful in rural areas.

Hope we do get something like that soon!
