I'm a travel nurse debating between these 2 assignments. Crow Agency is on the reservation and a government job. To a traveling nurse this meas that I don't have to bother going to the state and getting a license for Montana, I can use my home state license and walk right in and start working. Both are small. I have few needs, but would REALLY like to have internet access and a library. If not in the town, at least easily accessable.

Thanks in advance for any input. I greatly appreciate it.

I can't tell you anything about how the towns compare, but I'm thinking that if you don't have to get the state lic. right away, you can go to work now, and do the lic. thing in your own good time.

Default More details, please

nutbckt,
Not sure what you are asking. You said you are a "travelling" nurse so I would assume that you are NOT asking if you should LIVE in Crow vs Miles City??? If you are you just wanting to know where in Crow & Miles City will you find internet & a library near by, I will try to help.

You will not find a public library in Crow Agency because it is a VERY small town that consists of the Crow Hospital & a couple of gas stations but you can drive 15 miles South to Hardin (Big Horn County Public library). I'm not positive but the Hardin library probably has internet too. Big Horn County Library - Hardin, Montana (MT) | Company Profile

Miles City will be easier to find internet & a library because it has a pop of about 8,000 vs Crow having a few hundred residents. MCPL

If you provide some more detailed info, I may be able to provide some more info for you.

How long is your assignment in Montana?

Crow Agency has little or no accomodations for you. There is a hotel/casino that is pretty loud. However, you can drive a few miles up the road and stay in Hardin. At least in Hardin you'll have a variety of motels (4 or 5) instead of Crow's 1 motel/casino.

Sorry, can't help you with Miles City. But I would not stay in Crow. But that's me.

Miles City has lots to offer. A GREAT library, many area establishments that offer wifi, good cell service (and you can use an aircard with alltell or verizon for 24/7 internet access), a wide variety of hotels and motels and lots to do. There's outdoor recreation including river rafting in the summer, parks, a water park, and opportunities through the community college (milescc.edu) as well as live theater, open mic nights, and coffee shops...and, of course, a Walmart. Visit milescity.com/forums to ask any additional questions and check out the homepage for a directory and a link to city services.

Actually, I must correct myself.....From Crow you would drive 15 miles NORTH to Hardin. Hardin is South from where I live (Billings) so sorry, I got mixed up on my directions!

Some of the very small libraries in MT participate in a vast interlibrary loan program. Belgrade's little one-room library could get me any book from almost any library in the entire swath of the U.S. from Milwaukee to Seattle. This service was free (tho some libraries, like Fort Benton's, do charge for it). Only once did I try to order a book and find it wasn't available.

So... I would say whether the library participates in a good interlibrary loan program is a LOT more important than whether it's a large or small library.

I work at the crow / N. Cheyenne hospital and can answer or provide some info on most questions you have. I started as a traveler at crow before taking a permanent position there.

Very respected job!

There are good points and down points about both places. If you have few needs and wouldn't mind being in a very small community Crow Agency might be where you would want to relocate if you would rather go with the government job. Like other posters have said you are close to Hardin. Hardin is also a smaller town and does not have much as far as walmarts and targets or anything. If you don't mind the prairie and rolling hills you wouldn't mind that area too much. There are a lot of residents who live there and do their grocery shopping in Billings. There you can find all your usual stores (Target, Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot and so on). As well as your chain restaurants. I am not sure about the internet situation there. I do know that the weather in the Hardin/Crow Agency area can be rather hostile.

Miles City is bigger and may have the amenities that you are looking for such as your internet and library. Although I don't know what caliber of library you may be looking for. I am not sure but housing may be easier to find in Miles City because it is a bigger town. Depending on where you are from and what you are used to I might recommend Miles City. While the weather can be harsh there as well you may find what you are looking for a little easier.

Hope this helps just a little

Lindsay
