Default Hardin area: where to stay, what to see?

Hi, I'm from Germany visiting LBH and other historic places in May this year. I'm looking for a place to stay in Hardin or close to that place, can you give me some recommendations? I'm rather interested in B & Bs and guest houses, hotels/motels I like far less. What about staying with Native Americans, i e Cheyenne people, do they offer accommodation? I really would be happy to get some advise from you people.

Unfortunately, there's not a lot to offer in Hardin. Although it's a nice town, the motels there are limited. For a B&B you might try either Billings MT or Sheridan WY. Both are not real far and will offer better accomodations.

How long are you going to be in the area? The Sheridan area has a lot of historic places to visit. Fetterman Battlefield, Wagon Box, Medicine Wheel, Sheridan Inn, Trails End, Tongue River Canyon, etc... Sheridan is located at the foothills of the Big Horn Mountains.

Go to the Crow Tribe's website, lots of info there and take a look at the Wikipedia page for Hardin.
Enjoy the area and don't worry, these clowns (picture below) aren't around anymore !

We stay at the Western, American or the Super 8 in Hardin when visiting the battleground and the local fairs. My daughter dances at the pow wow in August. Over in St. Xavier there are a couple of native owned cabins on the Bighorn River - plenty peaceful. Isn't much in Lame Deer except for the casino.

To answer your other question about Pine Ridge - I don't know of any motels on da Rez. Closest would be southwest in Chadron, Nebraska or northwest in Hot Springs on the way to Mt. Rushmore.

But no Indians - most Europeans are big into American Indians! They often dress up like them - in most authentic costumes I ever saw. At the Blackfeet Rez in Browning was a couple from Holland dressed exactly like them.

Hardin is right outside of Billings so i'd check B&B's in Billings.... there's some nice one's. can't personally recommend any though. There's nothing that's very nice in Hardin or on the Res. Many think the reservation isn't safe for visitors, and that's probably not far off. Sheridan is quite away from Hardin if your business is in Hardin. It's over an hour apart whereas hardin is less then 20 mins from billings. go to the billings montana web site and there's info on lodging. stay away from the locally run motels and go with the big chain ones becasue they are better run and cleaner. there's some pretty dicy mom and pop motels througout billings that have very bad reputations and you wouldn't know this until you arrived. good luck and hope you have an enjoyable trip.

Right outside? 20 minutes? How fast do you drive? It's 48 miles.
