I just talked with my brother who works for a haz mat company called Clean Harbors. They're one of the nations largest haz mat/clean up companies at this point.
He was telling me that they're looking for 3000 people to work in Alabama cleaning up the oil spill.
They're working 3 weeks on and 3 weeks off, paid perdium up to 20 hrs a day. There should be a tax break for some or all of the pay since it's been declared a national emergency and most people would be working more than 100 miles from home.
For all class A drivers, log book rules are suspended due to the emergency designation as well.

Just figured some on this forum could use the $$$$, heck, work 3 weeks then come home for 3 weeks.

Good luck....

jimj,

Do you know if they are furnishing man-camps or housing of some sort? The reason I ask is the $20 per-dium rate is very low.

The standard per-dium rate in Mobile is $151 a day. That's what it takes to put up at a local motel. Not even a 3 star, but 2 star or below.

Another concern would be enough motel space for 3000 employee's.

From what I understand they're putting people up in the local motels/hotels. They evidently have had a group stationed there sitting on their butts waiting. Kind of jumped the gun but they're gearing up now.
I'm guessing they'll take over as much property as they can and I'd guess if it gets too tight they'd have the military bring in tents or fema trailers.

That would work then. The $20 a day is more of a displacement type pay. But at least it's non-taxable.
