A very "Unwelcome" by the security guard at the Fair Grounds. Watched them unhitch, set up rope corral and put the horses in it. Then come over and started yelling and screaming about being there. Bottom line is that the Fair Grounds is no longer a Fair Grounds. It's an expo center and there fore a business. No longer a "Welcome to Great Falls Fair Ground".

That seems to be quite a shallow view to trash out a nice place like Great Falls just because the city hired a seemingly rude guy to enforce the expo parks rules. Great Falls is a nice place in many ways.

IMO, you never leave it all behind, and the transplants are bound to leave an odor where they move to.

Had never been to Bozeman, but on a trip to Yellowstone a couple years ago, I traveled north and west from there.

I no more than drove through the downtown area of Bozeman and drove around some residential streets and I asked my roommate: Do you smell California here? I sure do!

Butte, next stop. Ah! Felt like I was in Montana again!

1 out of 3 that have moved to Las Vegas come from CA. Yes, we've heard it before: no plans to Californicate Nevada or anywhere else.

They're still working like beavers to end smoking in the casino's and neighborhood bars, but until they succeed in their endavors, I'll continue to enjoy every puff at my local bar!

It is. You're right. But the way I look at it is that a city has several avenues to make a first impression. They failed. She was rude to a new comer. The next day, the "Office" re-inforced her views. So it wasn't just the one female Guard that "Represented" Great Falls, the staff wasn't much better.

Anytime a person answers a question to a person traveling, they represent where they are at. One has to assume that if the dealings with a person from there is nasty, then the rest of the place can't be far behind. And in this case, the staff wasn't far behind.

It was an unfortunate incident and probably could have been handled better. So, our view of Great Falls is sour. It might be a great town. But we haven't seen that side of it.

I just spent last weekend in Las Vegas. In view of your smug comment about "leaving an odor", you'd best remember the adage, "people in glass houses.....".

I agree that a letter to the editor is in order -- something to shame the city into seeing what's going on under their very noses in the name of short-term revenue. They don't always realise there's a problem until someone complains, and I think your experience puts it in terms any idiot can understand.

And I'm sure a lot of longtime residents are thinking "what happened to our friendly old fairgrounds??" but haven't had a bad enough experience to instigate a complaint. Who knows, yours might just be the one that starts the tide going the other way.
