IMHO, you and you're wife need to make the decision for your family. If her family wants to follow, that is THEIR decision. Granted, they have some influence, but the bottom line is it is your decision. If you keep it separate, later on if things go badly, you can still feel secure because you made a decision for your family.

I totally agree with ElkHunter. We went out there and spent time in every season and still ended up loving it. We bought property and plan to live there someday but meantime my in-laws went out there to see our property and fell in love with it and moved out there before we did and now we will be following them . They love it there and are so happy. No problem for them with the winters. They are retired and say they would never move back to CA.

I agree. Cold temps in these areas are blunted by the size of Flathead Lake, which helps to create its' own micro-climate. However, if you can grant me a little hyperbole, the Sun goes behind the clouds in October and doesn't come out until April. If the OP is used to San Diego, and they move to Missoula, be prepared for "seasonal affective disorder".

right on here!! when you are use to sun year round the grey sky can be harder to take then the cold/snow/wind/ice ect....... and that's why i'm in billings. when the snow started up this year i thought seriously if i should consider the bugs and humidity of the sun belt south. but then something happened that i forgot about that is sorta unique to billings and this area.( i use to live in this area years ago) even though it snows and it does stay.....the sun comes out more then it's gone. and as long as i can see blue sky it more then makes up for snow and cold. and this is a big deal to me anyway......after living in the pacific northwest and also mountain snow country i was use to living in a greyout during the winter.....spring........part of summer....all of fall.

Sure agree with that! I remember how when I'd drive down past Gallatin Gateway there was a regular point where the sun disappeared and clouds took over. I couldn't live down the canyon, I would be climbing the walls looking for daylight.

My tenant is from Seattle. First time she saw the sun, she ran screaming from the UFO.
