Hello everyone, thank you in advance for your responses.

I have been offered a position working with the DoD in Seaside, therefore we will be relocating very soon, over the Christmas holidays. I wanted input/advice. We are a blended family in every since of the word. My husband is white, I am black, we have his mine and ours... four children all together. I have done my due diligence as to which schools are the best in the area. As far as what we are looking for, Pacific Grove Elementary and Middle seems to be the perfect match for the 2 older children and Mayflower Preschool or St. Angela's for our 3 year old.

We are wondering about the area, which are good, bad, kid friendly, etc. We would like to lease a minimum 3 bedroom home for starters until we are able to get a better feel for the area and decide on somewhere permanently.

Also, how accepting do you all think the community is to racial diversity?

sasoutherngal,

Check your messages as I responded to some of your Qs there. Regarding racial diversity I would say Monterey is very racially diverse due to it being a language learning 'capital.' There are people from many nations and colors living here. So you shouldn't have any problems in that regard. I agree with leasing first. That's the way to go. PG is a great little town with good public schools. If you enjoy the outdoors the whole area is kid friendly. Just take them to the beach or out on a nature walk and they will have a great time.
