I'm sure this has been covered before, but if you all wouldn't mind indulging me, I'd love to learn about the farmer's markets in Salinas & Monterey areas.

Thanks!

Monterey - Tuesday afternoon-early evening is along Alvarado St. in downtown its very extensive and has a little bit of everything. Lots of good spots to eat and diverse fruits and veggies.

Pacific Grove - Monday afternoon-early evening is right in downtown PG. Its pretty small, but has a few good spots and has my favorite pizza, Tricycle Pizza.

When we lived nearby, we usually got some fresh fruits & veggies from a Moss Landing Market
https://www.google.com/#q=Fruit+%26+...+Landing%2C+CA

& we got some in Castroville next to the Giant Artichoke. We loved the deep fried Artichoke once ina while, & fresh chokes too... https://www.google.com/#q=giant+arti...lle+California

Sometimes the Salinas Californian paper would have an ad where you could pick Strawberries for a price, from a local field.....

Year's ago the Drivein movie owner would have a flea market on certain days. Some sold produce.

oooh, good stuff here. BTW speaking of artichokes, what are you supposed to do with the little baby-sized ones? Just eat the hearts? I remember seeing some at that giant artichoke years ago and wondered. I've always boiled the big ones and eaten them with mayonnaise. Lots of fiber and fat lol!

Yes, the deep fried artichoke hearts at 'Giant Artichoke' are yummy...

With the boiled bigger ones we dipped the leaves & heart in mayo &/or melted butter......yum

Once a year we went to the choke Festival. We had some delicious deep fried hearts. Vendors let you taste/buy some tasty olives.

The Strawberry Festival, Squid Festival, & Garlic Festival are loads of FUN also...

You're making me hungry! Where/when is the Squid Festival? Never heard of it. Love seafood.

Fisherman's Wharf Monterey - The Great Monterey Clam Chowder & Calamari Festival 2013

Photos for The Great Monterey Clam Chowder and Calamari Festival | Yelp

They used to have the Calamari/Squid Fest at the Fairgrounds. I guess things have changed location.

ENJOY...

I accidentally found those fried hearts and enjoyed an order of 20. Then found kiwi and avocados 7 for $1 at moss landing. The fried artichoke hearts were really good. The kiwi ok. I'm waiting to try these plumb size avocados. I too want to know how do you prepare and eat those small artichokes.

There's a small one in Old Town Salinas. Can't compare to Monterey, but if you live there and need fresh veggies there are enough vendors.
