I don't want to leave. Economically, we'll probably be better off. We'll be closer to family, too. But I dread the day that I leave this paradise of Monterey Bay. I've lived lots of places, in the U.S., and even overseas. Whenever I've moved, I've always felt a bit nostalgic about the past and raised a mug of beer and bid it farewell, but I've never felt as bad about leaving as I am about Monterey Bay and South SF Bay. It's just my kinda place. I hate the thought of leaving. I'll miss this damn place.

I agree it would not be easy to move from this area. Where are you moving to?

Moving to PA. Family's there, and as much as I love this area, my commitments in life take me there. I'd move them here if I could, but there's no chance of that.

It's been real. Maybe when I'm older and had time to build a nest egg. Pretty much any place on the coast from SLO all the way up is paradise, as far as I'm concerned. Monterey's especially beautiful. Will definitely miss it.

Been there. Did that. Two years in Missouri (even with the lower COL) was enough.
Came back and happy again.

Monterey is very special. Sorry you have to leave it. But the good news is that as Arnold would likely say, "You'll be back!"

Don't do it! It is not worth the extra money. I did and was very regretful to return. Thank goodness I was able to come back.

Blah blah. Yeah it is special. And so is Santa Barbara and San Diego and Orange County and LA and San Francisco and Santa Cruz and Marin and and. It is the state basically that is special. It has amazing weather, a better way of life, etc.

You will be back.

We left - for economic stability - almost 25 years ago..... and hopefully will return in retirement.

But we never would have been able to save up nor had the stability we have now - had we stayed.

This reads strangely. I meant to say, I was regretful and wanted to return.
