Moving to Monterey Peninsula for a job at CHOMP and trying to target a location for schools. We will likely rent for at least the first year, but want to peg a location that we could eventually buy that gives us decent schools all the way through. From Great Schools Data, PG and Carmel are awesome... but what does that mean? Housing is overall more expensive and houses/yards are smaller. Our youngest is starting Kindergarten and has issues with anxiety. She will do best in a well run, organized place. Not sure if she will need special ed assistance, but want to have the option.

Love to understand what is behind this amazing school rating? Real or hype? Are Monterey school fine? HELP!

not sure how it is now, but carmel and pg have great schools traditionally, while montereys usually are second tier. Most wealthy monterey families send their kids to private school. What is your budget to buy?

Up to $1,000,000, but would feel better around $700,000. The mental shift on housing cost is hard to take. But we want proximity and schools for sure.

I can't speak about the schools but Pacific Grove > You are fortunate.

Carmel and PG are your best bets. Monterey has issues though not as bad as outlier area districts.
