Default Moving to Monterey - Where are the jobs?

Hello!

My husband and I are moving to the Monterey Bay area this fall and he's attending the NPS. Like everyone, I need a job and am looking for the "financial" districts, cities, job boards, etc. Any advice? I am in the HR arena.

Anything would be most helpful! Where do people commute to if they live in Monterey? Where are the job boards (other than Monster and Craigslist)?

Thanks!

Liz

Well,

I will be moving there this Fall and I am working at the DMDC which is a goverment facility on Fort Ord. I am not sure how much HR they have there though.

You may have to drive to Santa Cruz if you cannot find anything in the Monterey area. Check Indeed.com and the Monterey Herald also.

Derek

Monterey is a beautiful place to live, but not such a great place to find a job. Along with government, the main employers are agriculture and tourism in Monterey County.

In terms of "corporate" employers with HR, you might want to look at Dole Food Co.

Jobs in Silicon Valley (Santa Clara County) are too far away, although when I worked in SV I knew some people who made the long drive from Salinas every day.

If you're in HR, I'd look into the city, county, school districts, Cal State MB, and other institutional places.
