no. IMHO.
yes they are sort of on/near water (one an island one... well underwater heh heh)
too me they look nothing like each other having visited both. They only thing I find they have in common is you see the fleur de lis everywhere but that's about it.
Thinking even more about it I feel there are greater differences, buildings, architecture, cuisine, the people, demographics, layout... etc...
Last time I was in NO and the Louisiana rural area one thing I noticed is that lots of French (and I mean from France) tourists would show up a lot. I was out in Cajun country at some small museum house out in the rurals and many of them were just baffled that nobody there could understand them.
Just because they have a French language connection doesn't mean they speak it or know it, even though there's a language culture that is similar.
On that same token, a friend of mine who grew up in Montreal and speaks French when he gets together with another friend of his in the area and some other France colleagues, if they start yaking up like he's back home, they (the France guys) can't understand what the heck he's talking bout.
Long story short back on topic.
New Orleans... cool
Montreal... cool
so there's a similarity.

I am not from Montreal nor live there, only visited occasionally and like the city. I haven't had the pizza in Montreal so I have no comment on that.
Bagels in Montreal are a big deal, they are sweet kind of and a unique item, they are absolutely fantastic.

Bagels aren't something that anyone would even -think- came from anywhere -near- Montreal.
Poutine, however, is. We southsiders might not know where it -really- comes from, but any of us in the lower 48 who have heard of it, assume it's from Montreal.
