I'm going to put this in Montreal forum as well, might get more helpful feedback.

I just came back from a dollar store job interview. The interview went okay, in my opinion. The interviewer let me answer one question in English since he saw me struggling with one answer to his question, but the rest went in French. I thought maybe sending a thank you note could help me stand out.

Another thing strange that was going on was the other 2 guys he was interviewing. The guy he interviewed before me was wearing jeans, though he wasn't dressed too casual/sloppy. The guy he was interviewing after me wasn't even shaved... I was the only one wearing dress pants/shoes and dress shirt, though not too formal looking. Would it help me stand out at all with a thank you card? Or would he rather reconsider because of my struggling in French with just 1 question?

Also, would it still be appropriate if the interviewer and interviewee are the same gender?

Guess it wouldnt hurt, but at this time of year you may be competing with younger family members of people already employed at the store whose kids are looking for summer jobs..
