Hi,

I'm moving to Montreal very shortly and would appreciate your recommendations on what areas are the safest?

I prefer living in central areas close to public transport but safety, quiet and decent neighborhoods are priorities.

- What areas do you recommend as most fit to live in?

- Is there specific nehighborhoods to stay away from (noisy nightlife, homeless etc.?)

Thanks in advance

I cant think of a neighborhood in Montreal that i would not feel safe in, if you are working downtown some of the perimeter neighbor hoods will fit your requirement for habitation,Consider NDG,Westmount,Verdun,Lasalle,Cote st Luc, Plateau,Mile end,McGill ghetto. Any area on the Metro line will have you downtown in around 25 minutes max.or you could just live in a highrise apartment downtown.

I moved to the U.S. in 2005, but I spent the first 40 years of my life in Montreal, the final 7 in Westmount. Westmount is a TERRIFIC area -- close to shopping, parks, etc... and definitely a very safe and lovely area to live.

I lived right on Sherbrooke St. West (Ouest ), between Metcalfe (not to be confused with the Metcalfe in downtown Montreal) and Kensington, which you would think would be a bit noisy due to traffic, yet it wasn't. Westmount is not rowdy in the least.

Westmount's where you want to be! If you can afford it. If you're looking for something more middle income I have a few other suggestions, like Griffintown.

Coming alone?
staying awhile?
Renting or buying?
Whats the price range?
If alone or with significant other i'd start off in a 3-4 rm apartment in one of the highrises along DeMaisoneuve between Atwater and Guy st.

Hi! If you are looking for Downtown, the Golden Square Mile neighbourhood is the best, from my experiences (plus working in a real estate agency) I have lived there for a year on Sherbrooke, it was three streets away from the Peel station, you want to avoid being too close to one. Near Atwater, (Place Alexis-Nihon) I was attending a college in that area and took the subway everyday, I did not feel safe at all, there are a lot of drunk homeless people, which makes you wonder if theres a shelter there.... Now I'm in the suburbs lol
