That was a bit poorly worded -- the homicide rate is indeed much higher in NWT and Nunavut but there are very few people there to begin with, so the overwhelming majority of homicides still happen in the more populated provinces (numbers).
In a few months, we'll be moving to Quebec. I guess I just want us to feel safe there as well.
On a topic titled "sensitive subject, gun violence" the fact that only 11 chose to respond should give you an idea of how relevant guns are in Montreal.
Note that in all the 3 cases you cited, none were descendants of Quebec's first settlers.
Don't forget Denis Lortie (3 dead...would have been a lot more if he had a watch). Or the October Crisis. Quebec has had its fair share of mass murders and extreme violence. Almost 100 mailbox bombings (almost all in Westmount) in addition to the Montreal Stock Exchange bombing.

Montreal is a big city, its not unreasonable to expect a nut job with a gun to go on a shooting spree once every 10-20 years.
As for the FLQ mailbox bombings that happened back in the mid 60's? not really relevant to the safety of todays Montreal.
I should have clarified my point. My point was refuting the idea that the "descendants of the original settlers" were not prone to violent acts.
That wasn't what I said, other than pointing out that the perpetrators of the 3 cases cited were not fathered by the "descendants of the original settlers".

Yes, I can see that. I suppose there is a reason why you even brought it up, but it is not known to us.

The point is you are making excuses for your irrelevant "FLQ" and "bombings" obsession.
