Hello!

Family of five; Dad, Mom and 3 daughters (4, 2, 6 mo). My husband is currently a Junior in the Pre-Medical program in South Florida. We are seriously considering applying for McGill. He is 26 (27 by Jan), and speaks lower level/intermediate French from his 5 year service in the military. He currently has a 3.68 GPA, but his cumulative GPA is 2.9. First question is do you think he has a fair chance of being accepted into McGill?

Next inquiry is where to live? I do not plan on working at first as I would need to adjust with the children. But my 4 year old (5 by Jan) would be in school. How much does an average private elementary school cost? Or what are the English schools like? How is the cost of living? Utlities, average rent fee, etc. We're mainly searching for information on the full transition. Thanks in advance!

2.9 is kind of low. A 3.9 would be a much better chance. McGill's med school is very competitive. Back in the early 90's, I know several people with 3.7 who were not accepted.

When I was a science grad student at McGill, I TA'd many pre-med students. They would be in my office fighting for every sliver of a higher grade because it mattered.

I once was seriously thinking about applying to McGill medical school when I was doing my undergraduate degree there, and to be honest with those grades I don't think that he'll be accepted. McGill med only has two seats per year open to international students, including the many international students who attend McGill for their undergrad, so the competition is very fierce. I don't think that if his cumulative GPA is under 3.85 that he has any chance at McGill med. Sorry, not trying to be discouraging, just my honest evaluation as someone who's informed about this particular topic.
