Hello everyone, I have some questions about the immigration process to Quebec.
I hope someone here has some answers for me or can point me in the right direction. I have been scouring the official Quebec Immigration website (http://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/fr/index.html) but am looking for more detailed information.

Some relevant background information:
I am an American woman with a French boyfriend, no kids. We have been in a relationship for roughly 5 years, mostly long-distance with a lot of visits back and forth between the US and Europe. My boyfriend currently lives in Central Europe for work, and I was able to move there to live with him for one year, but unfortunately had some family obligations come up and I had to move back to the US late last year.

We would like to move to Quebec (specifically Montreal if we can) together, but the fact we do not currently live together worries me about the visa application. My boyfriend will apply as the "principal applicant".

My questions:
1) What's the delay for the permanent worker visas?
2) If my boyfriend is granted a visa as a permanent worker, can he sponsor me right away?
3) Can I qualify as my boyfriend's "de facto spouse" or "conjugal partner" given our circumstances?
4) Are there any restrictions on working for a sponsored person?
5) Who else (especially from France/US) here has gone through the process with a non-married partner? How long did it take for you?
6) Does anyone have recommendations for a good immigration lawyer that is on the approved list that would be able to do a consultation? How do I go about finding a good immigration lawyer?

Any information at all would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Does anyone have at least some recommendations or ideas on how to search for a good immigration lawyer? I've seen the list of approved consultants/lawyers, and that list is quite daunting to pick from with no frame of reference.

Merci en avance !

The work visa should not take very long to process if you have a job offer. It usually takes about 4-6 weeks depending on your company and type of work you do.
Once you have a work visa, you need can start working and apply for PR. PR application from Quebec takes about 1.5 yrs. I am not sure how the non-working spouse application works though, but I know many people who have done that so there seems to be a provision for that.
Hope this helps.
