I've been looking at apartments in the Sainte-Marie neighbourhood in the borough of Ville-Marie. Are any of you living in the area or familiar with the region? It seems pretty central but I'm not yet in a position to check it out in person.

I do not know that specific neighborhood very well but I have often been through it on Ontario or De Lorimier. It is indeed central and on the green line (Frontenac metro station) although it depends on where you'll work or go to school. It is an lower-middle class, largely French-speaking neighborhood, not unlike the eastern end of the Plateau (beyond Papineau) and not as gritty as Hochelaga further east.

Tying back to your earlier thread about NDG -- daily conversations are much more likely to be in French in that part of town, compared to anything west of Saint-Laurent.
