If I'm not mistaken, the surname Desfosses is fairly common in Quebec. IIRC, there is an accent mark on the last e. I looked online to see how it is pronounced to no avail. How is it pronounced?

While I'm at it, there is the Quebecois actor Luc Picard. Is his name pronounced luke pi-car, with the i pronounced like in pick, not like ee in peen or pi as in pie? Is the d silent?

Desfossés is a recognizable French Canadian name, but it isn’t very common.

The accent is called an accent aigu or acute accent. It is used to impart the equivalent of an "ay" sound in English.

The Pic in Picard is pronounced "pee", not pick; and the "d" ending is mute.

I believe Desfosses without the accent also exists as a name, but it's much rarer than Desfossés. At least in Québec

fossé = ditch

fosse = grave or pit

So the United States had a famous choreographer named “Bob Ditch”?

Pretty sure I ran into a few folks with the name Desfosses (without the accent) when I was a kid during my hockey days.
