Default transportation from montreal airport to downtown hotel

Hi all,

I am a solo traveler so I'm on a budget here. I know the taxi will probably be about $40 from the airport (trudeau).

Is there alternative transportation? Is there a metro or anything? I will be staying at the Residence Inn at 2045 Peel Street.

i see that there are city busses that leave the airport for $2.60 but I can't decipher their website as to the stops.

STM - Bus Summary

- BUS 204 (to the east) from the airport to Dorval station (ca. 7 minutes)

then

- BUS 211 (to the east) from Dorval station to Lionel Groulx subway station (ca. 15 minutes)

then

- Subway from Lionel Groulx to Peel station (green line towards Honoré-Beaugrand)

A subway/bus ticket costs 2.75$/unit or 12.75$/6 units.
I know that you just need 1 ticket when you take the subway then 2 buses but you might have to use 2 tickets when you take 2 buses then the subway, I don't really remember how it works.

Enjoy your stay in Montreal !

Oh this doesn't sound so bad! Thank you!!!

Do you know if the buses are 24 hours because when I leave montreal my flight is at 7:45 in the morning. Meaning I probably need to leave my hotel at 5am

Busses should operate from 5 am - 11 pm, subways 24 hours. If you need to take 2 busses (which you will) just pick up a transfer, saves you a few dollars. Same deal with the subway.

I am very disappointed in Montreal's public transportation. I thought that Pearson is not connected to subway is bad enough, and Montreal needs subway and TWO buses... I took the airport bus which cost $16 one way.
Not to mention Quebec city. When I ask how to get to downtown by bus, the answer is there is no such way. Taxi is the ONLY way to go to downtown/old down and it costs $32 plus tax (my flight cost $91 in total). Isn't it the capital city?
I have to say Quebec's infrastructure is horrible. I will never go to Montreal or Quebec by air again.

Now, with the new paper tickets format, you can use only one ticket for any buses you want, at least it's with only one metro entry and within 2 hours time interval.

Another possibility is to take the "aerobus" but I also find it a bit expensive ($15 two years ago, one way). And it's going to downtown only/major hotels. The only advantage is that that bus has dedicated space for plenty of luggages, comparing to the normal STM/public transportation buses.

To be noted also that the taxes from dorval to downtown have supposedly a fixed price ($35 was 2 years ago). But I guess it's just a trick (very often the real cost is less than $35 because the traffic is very fast and easy on the highway).

If time is not of essence, and you have patience, I would take the 2 buses + metro.
