Default Agreement In Principle For Clemson To Join Big 12; Florida State To Follow

Quote:
The news surrounding Big 12 expansion is moving much more quickly after word of the Big 12/SEC bowl alliance came out late this past week. The latest news I can report is that Clemson has agreed in principle to leave the ACC for the Big 12.
While no similar agreement is in place with FSU, word is that the administration has “come around” on the issue, and they will follow Clemson’s lead in short order. From the moment it became clear that FSU’s Board of Trustees wanted to make the move, it has been basically a fait accompli.
It is happening, and quickly.
Full story

Im looking forward to the Big 12 East. Hope we pick up VT too. SEC might even want them, and perhaps the Big 10.

The following is an overstatement, but I'm excited about the current moves by the Big 12 Conference. Here goes:

The ACC took aggressive actions that led to its own downfall. However, a primary external factor in these developments was WVU. Single games never decide much, but WVU was rejected by the ACC (no clear evidence, but rumors) and ended up with an invite into the Big 12 Conference. Then, in its last game as a Big East member, WVU provided all decent ACC football members with a set of clear reasons as to why the ACC is going to get weaker in the superconference format. They simply can't keep up recruiting against the SEC. The Big 12 has Texas and the plains.

This is what the ACC gets - they never should have tried to build a football reputation by taking it from another conference. Let's hope that the Big 12 can convince Virginia Tech to join the Big 12, not the SEC.

The Big 12 will add 2 teams, then stop and wait for Notre Dame. If and when ND comes, they will add another team with them. Without Notre Dame, there is no sense in expanding beyond 12 teams. Virginia Tech would not add enough "value" to the conference without Notre Dame to justify the move because they wouldn't move the income needle the required $2 million per conference team per year to make it worthwhile for everyone.

Adding Clemson and Florida State will do that because it also enables the league championship game which will have immediate financial benefits for every conference program. It would also work if it were Virginia Tech and either one of the other two, but since VT is likely too late to the table they will be stuck in the ACC until the next round. Only two of the three will make the cut.

The big 12 is reluctant to expand. It will be good for WVU to have some eastern teams in it, but some of the Texas and midwest schools dont really care.

In the end I still thin they will nab at least 2 ACC teams.

As much as I dislike VT we have to admit they are a good team. They aren't great, but they definitely the best in the ACC. The SEC might want them too. The teams that could be screwed is Pitt and BC. Nobody really wants them. Syracuse was always a basketball school so the ACC's terrible football, and implosion shouldnt hurt them.

Miami also wants seems to want out.

The Big 12 did not want Pitt, in spite of what their fans say. They contacted the Big 12, but were told rented facilities for football were not acceptable to the league.

We know that a city university sharing a city stadium enrages you, but your fantasies may work when you are posting with others in your bubble like Mhver.

Who wanted whom?

Why don't you go where you belong, to some insignificant ACC board or something? We don't bother you on yours, and all you do is come here to stir up rediculous crap. There is absolutely nothing that enrages any of us about Pitt's rented stadium that they can't fill up. Nobody cares about Pitt, not even in Pittsburgh. Pitt is not in West Virginia. Take it to the PA board.
