Morgantown is Now Home of the NASA Champion Robotics Team
Once again the WVU Robotics team and their robot, Cataglyphis garners 1st. Place in the NASA Robotics competition held at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts, beating more than 50 other teams in the process and taking home the first prize of $750,000. A Morgantown native is a member of this year's team.
Morgantown Welcoming a Record Number of College Freshmen
Morgantown residents will be seeing more young freshmen faces this year than ever before, as WVU has enrolled a school record freshman class. Other recent developments at the school have seen the school's Foundation close in on $1 billion in donations, which has created endowments for nearly 700 new student scholarships, dozens of endowed chairs and professorships, and hundreds of millions of dollars in endowed research funds. The new freshman class is also the school's most qualified academically.
Like the other thread you made a few weeks back on this topic, this is not necessarily a good thing, in a town that is still way unprepared for more and more people.......
Neither the town, county, nor state infrastructure are ready.
Without getting in the slightest partisan, we need folks representing us who will make sure we get a fair shake here and get the infrastructure we need and deserve. Our local contingent has been failing miserably for the past 3 decades.
You may be right, but now is not the time to enroll record classes. If WVU wants to accept everyone with a pulse and a credit card why should the state be supportive and fall in line?

Actually, the state has been miserable at supporting their best academic resource for the past 8 years. WVU only receives 10% of its funding from state appropriations as opposed to as much as 24% elsewhere. But, you are wrong about accepting "everyone with a pulse". In fact, the qualifications of this freshman class are the best in the history of the school. The alumni and supporters have been stepping to the plate in spite of the fact that state government has not, and have raised nearly $1 billion in contributions. One result is 700 new, fully funded scholarships that help attract the best students. It is paying off in terms of the sorts of people who apply, and when coupled with the fact that more Promise Scholarship students choose WVU than any other school, the results speak for themselves.
The University is also the state's best cash cow, and it is ridiculous that the state isn't "supportive and fall(ing) in line" to support that with appropriate infrastructure investment instead of building roads in the middle of nowhere, then running around carping about not receiving enough tax revenue.
