Does anyone know if the Ohio County Dental Clinic in Wheeling, WV does major dental work or just routine check ups and such? My friend needs a root canal and some other major fixes but is flat broke. Any suggestions?

There are some programs out there that can potentially help with dental expenses, you can do a google search to find some of them. In terms of low income health care, dental has always taken a back seat to all other forms of care and usually doesn't have the same level of resources to help. However, there is some help out there.

Your friend may want to contact the WV Dental Board to see if they can provide a list of dental providers who might be able to help with doing dental work for low income patients or even donate services. Applications
Or perhaps speak to the WV Dental Association West Virginia Dental Association Online

Also, some of the major dental insurance companies, like Delta Dental, have programs for lower income patients but I am not familiar with all of the details. I would do a search for more information.

While its not in Wheeling, I believe the dental school at WVU has a program for their dental residents to do work on patients, up to certain point of what needs done, on a sliding scale type arrangement.

Those are good ideas, but this is the Morgantown forum, not the Wheeling forum. This really should be on the West Virginia board.

You can also try the Clay-Battelle Community Health Center a little ways out in Blacksville. www.cbhealthwv.org

You didn't do it right. You might have to do it near the beginning of the year, but you want to find a dental student who needs a practice subject. He/she would entirely redo your friend's mouth under close supervision, so the work is excellent. It would, however, mean spending a ton of time in a dentist's chair and showing up on time is crucial. Your friend would need to stay in Morgantown or within driving distance until the work is finished.

Unless the policy has changed, your friend would only have to pay for the cost of the materials used.
