The premier magazine for golf folks has names Pikewood, near Morgantown, one of the world's Top 100 golf courses, and among the best 40 courses in America.
I hadn't even known about this place before the article this morning. I'm assuming that only members or guests of members can play? Any clue what the annual fee is? The club only offers such information after one has made inquiry.
I have read about this place a few times. From what I had heard, Pikewood has hosted some major celebrities in sports, entertainment and other realms. One rumor I heard was that Michael Jordan has flown his private jet into NCWV regional to play the course.
I don't know about the fee. I don't play golf, but supposedly this place has a nicer golf course than either Greenbriar or Oglebay, and that is saying something. I believe it is not easy to gain membership, but if you watched the video you can tell it is spectacular. One of either Pikewood or Lakeview (I'm not sure which) has its own Boston Beanery.
It makes me wonder how a course that's hardly known makes a top 100 in the world list. Hmmm
Maybe the reason it isn't well known is not many people get to play it. A $30,000 initiation fee will do that. Something tells me they don't care how well known they are.
It is a spectacular course, very scenic and aesthetically pleasing, of course that $30,000 will ensure you don't play with any riff raff. Alot of money went into investing and building this course. Not being well known and with a high profile clientele makes this seem like a very exclusive place.
Maybe John Raese slid a little money Golf Digest way...

There is no question that Raese has the resources to do it up right. If somebody has a lot of money, this region has awesome golf venues. For the ordinary person, the Wheeling area has outstanding courses at Oglebay and Wheeling Parks (4 publically owned courses for the City of Wheeling alone), that are expertly maintained and in pristine condition.
