Anyone else notice that the in store branding as you are leaving the Suncrest Towne Center Kroger now reads "Thank you for visiting your Morgantown Kroger Marketplace"? The "Kroger Marketplace" is what caught my eye, I wonder if they are planning on converting this Kroger into one of their Marketplace Kroger's (maybe minus some of the clothing and jewelry store aspects).
I still can't believe they did all that renovation and whatnot just to stick a Starbuck's in there with bad coffee. I realize there's not a decent coffee shop anywhere in the Towne Center, or anywhere else until you get to Terra Cafe, but it seems it would have done better as a stand alone somewhere than in Kroger. Do that many people need coffee to buy groceries? I certainly wouldn't go through that parking lot just to park and get coffee. I can count on one hand the number of times I've been there and not seen a fender bender...
Ha, not to be facetious but I really miss good ol M-town days 25 yr ago. There was BiLo on University Star City. Shop n Save in Westover on Fairmont rd. The 2 Kroger's were on Patteson & in Sabraton on Earl Core Rd. Also Food Lion in Sabraton. On Mileground was something grocery but I forget, anyone?
Then came Aldi on Beechurst or whatever Rt # there. Anyone add any others from the mid-late 90s? Oops, Giant Eagle, I think next to Mtneer mall under Walmart's lot. Also, Dollar General in Mtneer Mall for canned goods cheap. Haha, a dinosaur I am, but anyone remember & summarize which are there & where the others went? LOL
TY, as a trip down memory lane when I attended WVU would sure encourage us to move back this yr later.
Oh, 1 more: the one before going over the bridge in Star City (in Big Lots shopping center) down the hill from The Coliseum? What was that grocery called? A Shop n Save too?

It was a Foodland. That, BiLo, and Westover Shop’n’Save fed us as kids.

I don’t know about most people but I actually welcome the Starbucks (although anyplace within the store to stop and get something to drink would be fine). I’m a retired person who lives outside Morgantown and I routinely run multiple errands on one day. A typical run might include post office, library, Lowe’s, Target etc. I generally finish up with grocery shopping and by the time I get there I need something to recharge my batteries. I used to do Sonic a lot but something inside Kroger makes for one less stop.
I agree most people are not going to stop there just for coffee. If they just want coffee there is another SB just across the street.

There were a lot of earlier ones I remember. The one on the mileground changed names a lot. At one time it was an IGA. Then there was the Apple supermarket (also changed names I think) in Star City which burned down. There was an A&P at the bottom of High Street and the Thorofare at the Richwood loop. It became a Foodland, I believe, before it also burnt down. It was a lifesaver for me when I lived on North Willey without a car. There was a third Giant Eagle up where KMart eventually went in. It was huge, but probably the worst designed supermarket I have ever been in. It didn’t last long.
The really interesting grocery stores, were the long gone Mom and Pop stores that have long disappeared, but lasted into the seventies at least. There were two, just blocks apart, on High Street, one on Kingwood Street in South Park, several in Sunnyside (not counting the Superette). One of the ones in Sunnyside was a little Italian Market. There was one up at the top of Spruce and one at the top of Willey. I’m sure there were many more in areas I did not frequent regularly.
Don't forget about "Big B" that was owned by Bob Bell and was located on what is now Don Knott's Blvd near the current Aldi's. For a short time there was a go-kart track beside it.
