West Virginia, Monongalia County and Harrison County leading the nation in new voting technology. Kudos to West Virginia Secretary of State Mac Warner for implementing this.

"Monongalia and Harrison counties will be among the first two in West Virginia — and the nation — to test a pilot voting program that allows deployed military personnel to vote using a mobile application."

"The mobile app uses blockchain, often used in financial transactions for cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, to create a ledger that represents voters and candidates."

“The voter has a credit that he can use, and the candidate is waiting for that credit to be transferred,” Warner said. “When that vote takes place, it is credited to the candidate and it is debited from the voter. So, he can’t vote a second time.”

“That’s the beauty of the blockchain. All of this is verifiable. It’s auditable.”

This is exciting but unfortunately I doubt this will ever really get off the ground. I would love to see this roll out nationally though. It is true that with blockchain it is possible, but WOW what a blow that would be to lobbiest in Washington D.C. Imagine if we actually had a pure democracy with citizens voting directly on issues as opposed to politicians "representing" the people while simultaneously taking millions of dollars from special interest groups. There is just too much money and power out there to ever truly see this evolve into its full potential. Forget about voting on a political candidate, you dont need an elected official to cast a vote if you have the ability to vote directly on the issues themselves. Power to the people!!!
