Are there any websites that one can get email alerts or notifications of current rates.
I found bankrate.com and Countrywide does not seem competitive.
You should call some of those lenders and see if those rates are 'real'.
You could get notifications if you have applied with a company
Otherwise, some joe will just quote you any rate.

I would also check with a credit union now days they are easy to join.
If by chance you belong to USAA their mortgage division had the best rate and closing costs when we were looking

Yeah, those rates crack me up..I knew a guy whose job it was to report the "average rates" for his company to the regional media outlets. They were never accurate and almost always about .5 - 1% off.
