LendingTree Closes!
I used to work at LendingTree (LTL), and left in April.
Still have a lot of friends there....well not anymore.
My friends just informed me that the Charlotte Branch was laid off!
That's about 400-500 employees!
We're waiting to see if the California branch was laid off as well.....

Only the strong survive!
It is sad about the employees. I believe we have far surpassed the 100k mark for mortgage industry jobs lost.

Any idea if they are doing it to outsource, reduced business, an increase in employment at their California branch, due to automation, or removal of jobs?

Most likely shutting the whole company down for good as is happening to mortgage companies across the country. Check out the "lenders implode-o-meter" The Mortgage Lender Implode-O-Meter - tracking the housing finance breakdown, related to Alt-A and subprime mortgages, lending fraud, predatory lending, housing bubble, mortgage banking, foreclosures, debt, consolidation, lawyers, class-action lawsui

Well I hate to assume anything when dealing with things this sensitive.
I've applied several times through them.. Never closed once.. Always ended up closing elsewhere because their offers were never firm and each bank would need to run seperate applications.
Shame, nice idea.. good process.. not a good followup on behalf of lendingtree.

I would have never gone through lending tree .com for a mortgage, same as I would never give my info to a place like lower my bills.com
These go to brokers who buy leads. If you are a good mortgage guy/gal that you don't have to buy leads.

PHH Mortgage (does business as Century 21 Mortgage, Coldwell Banker Mortgage, ERA Mortgage, etc) is who I'd recommend. They are a top ten lender, they are not a broker, and they never got involved in sub prime like many of the other big lenders.
I'm sure there are others but I'd recommend sticking with large direct lenders.
