Hard to believe isn't it? We purchased our first home in 1979 and thought we were doing good to get an 11.5% rate. I remember people at work paying 18% a few years later. It also explains why the houses built in those times were so much smaller - with those kind of rates a new homeowner couldn't afford much more.

Those were the rates back then for the more mature members here......lol!!!!

Brought my 1st property in 83, honestly don't remember the % rate.

No doubt it was up there..

Parents bought their home in the 90s on a 15 yr note for 55k and had a 7% interest rate. I believe their payments with escrow was about 750/month. Lucky for them the house has more than doubled in price and it's paid off.
