ING does not write VA loans. They specialize in portfolio Jumbo product.
The best option is always to ask friends, family, and coworkers for suggestions. Don't pick a lender based on their big name or advertising campaign necessarily because in the end it is the loan officer you are dealing with that will make the experience pleasant and straightforward or a nightmare. Also keep in mind that you can talk to 3 different loan officers from the same bank and get 3 different rate and fee structures as well (again it is always up to the LO).
Would y'all think a Realty Company who has their own Mortgage Company of the same name would be a good bet? Or would you think that would be a conflict of interest and work against me?
A realty company mortgage company may not approve and close their own loans. I can almost certainly advise you, they don't hold the loans. If the loans are approved by another company, I would recommend going elsewhere. If they are closed by another company, again, go elsewhere.
If your loan is going to be pooled with 100's of others from other companies at one investor, attention to your loan will be minimal as opposed to someone that approves and closes their own loans.
The same applies with some of the national lenders. For example BofA has two centers nationwide that processes, approves and closes the entire nation's loans. Can you say BACK UP? Last I heard they were picking up the files just prior to closing to underwrite for the firm commitment. Works great if you like last minute surprises.
With so many banks failing, and mortgage companies going under, who do I give my business to?
We're using VA ... so a bank would feel "safe" in granting the mortgage.
But which bank is the question...
We have always gone with Navy Federal Credit Union..best rates, awesome help there for us..I have also heard great things about USAA
