Which type of lending institutions tend to do in-house mortgages?

I believe what you mean are portfolio lenders, those that don't sell mortgages to Wall Street. As a broker I have a few different portfolio lenders that I work with as do most brokers. You can also check with small local banks and ask whether they portfolio their loans or not.
