Just heard the news that one of my companies' computers was stolen early this month. I was informed that the computer contained my personal information . The company would offer a free credit monitoring for one year and suggested me to set up a fraud alert.

On the other hand, I just had a signed contract to purchase a home few weeks back. I am in the process of underwriting and the deal will close within one month.

Does anyone have any suggestion? Should I set up credit monitoring/fraud alert now or after the house closes? How will it affect underwriting? Will it delay the process or even lead to denial of a loan? (ps. I am pre-approved and my credit score was excellent last time we checked in April)

I will contact my load officer tomorrow to ask for suggestion as well.
Any thought would be appreciated!

It won't affect your loan. Worst case scenario is the reporting agency will want you to verify taht you are the one who actually applied. Because you will need to bring to forms of ID (including one photo) to the closing, the bank knows who you are.

The "fraud alert services" will generally NOT slow down a legitimate mortgage application, as YOU will tell them that YOU are authorizing access for YOUR purposes. No way to have that lead to denial unless some one is WILDLY incompetent...

If some one else has your financial info at any point in the process the peace of mind that comes from the fraud service would be good to have ASAP...
