Many here might remember the Kawasaki W650 which was a copy of the classic Triumph 650s.
Now Triumph is back and building modern-day Bonnevilles with the retro styling and a 900cc motor.
Well, never to be one-upped by Triumph, Kawasaki is going to bring back the W650 with the retro Triumph styling, but is upping the engine displacement to an 800cc....
Kawasaki W800 Bonneville-rival is real
Kawasaki is about to reveal a bigger replacement for the defunct W650 Triumph Bonneville replica, confirming internet speculation.
Nice! The engine looks a lot like the old 650 Yamaha twin's, at least from a distance. I like those vertical twins! It looks more like a vintage bike than the new Triumphs.
The one thing I hate about it is that Kawasaki green and a painted or sticker type logo as opposed to something more like the Triumph badge. But of course only Triumph can put that badge on them.
I think the shape of the tank is more like a 60's Bonneville than the new Bonnevilles themselves. The new Bonnevilles have a kind of pregnant look to them. I also don't like the step-up in the exhaust that the new Bonnevilles have. This W800 actually looks more like the original in that respect as well. Neither one has a kick start lever too.
As I recall, the 1960s Kaw 650s did have tank badges. Anyone that wants to can use a tank badge.
The tank has a nice shape, but the color scheme looks out of place, something like a 1970s Kaw triple would have had. But that is easy enough to change if it is that bothersome. It doesn't bug me all that much. The bike is very handsome, right down to the fork gaiters.
I agree with that, but there have been other badges. BSA used to have a nice one.
