Earplugs help a lot, and a windshield helps even more.

I never ride without deeply set earplugs. Does not matter where or how fast I'll be riding (and I rarely go on the freeway). I roll them into cigar shapes, lick them, and insert them.

If all the loud rock bands I've been in didn't damage my hearing (I'm a professional bassist) , I doubt that wind noise will. Besides, I'm already 65.

I never ride without a wind shield.
Hit a bird at 65 dead center forehead height and you never will again.
I live in Mn and rarely wear a helmet but I will not ride with out a windshield.
When I hit that bird I was so close to being knocked out it was scary. I pulled over and took several minutes to get my head right.
The noise is very minimal with a windshield too.

So you won't ride without a a windshield for safety, but you don't wear a helmet?

The wind noise is the problem but I have worn helmet headsets for the past 25 years with music in my ears much of the time. I am paying the price; my heaing is going.

Thats what i thought until i started wearing earpluggs, now theres no way i would ride without them.

You can hear fine with earpluggs it doesn't stop you from hearing it's just not as loud.

It is better than sitting awake at night worrying about the non stop ringing in your ears.

I always ride with earplugs. Although, around town I take them out sometimes to make sure the bike isn't making any weird noises.
