I am a very good rider, so I wouldn't worry about the power this bike offers, yes it has power, but it's not a Ninja 600cc, four cylinder race bike, nor is it a 'Busa so yeah....
I plan on getting it to ride for a long time and not need to trade up for a few years, not get a "slower" bike like the other poster is tell me to do, and then trading to this bike. Plus, a 50cc, 250cc or 1000cc in the hands of someone who doesn't understand how to respect the power is going to hurt you no matter the power each one has.

The best piece of advice I've ever received when shopping for my first motorcycle is to get one you won't be afraid to drop.
I'm currently riding an sv650 which is the ninja650s doppleganger. The one thing I wish it had was more top end power for passing. It does make an excellent commuter bike.

SV is a V-Twin, not parallel. Besides that, I can agree. I've known several first time riders who began their riding experience on a 75hp motorcycle, and all have turned out well. I've had a few friends who've started on Ninja 250's and 500's and rode those for several years before making the move to a 636 or Triumph, or R6, or R1 and watched them put the bike down...either on the roads, or the track.
I wouldn't say seating position is necessarily the most important factor in considering a motorcycle and differentiating between a crotch rocket and a true lazy standard...I mean, a Z1000 is a standard...but it's more than enough bike for a very very seasoned rider.

Oops, you're quite right about that.
