I ride and own KTM motorcycles. I have found them to be the best motorcycles for the riding I do.
I ride dual sport events and an enduro from time to time.
Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Yamaha do not make a big dual sport that compares.
Their enduro bikes are not street legal in the USA therefore not a consideration for me.
1999 or so was the last year in Florida you could convert an off road motorcycle to a street title.
Every state is deifferent when it comes to street-legal dual sports (exactly the same thing as an 'enduro' in my book) KTMs require more maintenance than I want for the performance level I'm capable of, so they're not really the best option for me. But I've only recently started (ant not really committed to) riding off road. Seems like a total waste here in GA, since I'm easily a 5-hour round trip drive from any OHV area, but when I was out in CO and WY I was near to becoming OHV-only. Actually closer than when I was roadracing (funny thing, dirt riding being more fun than corner apexing, but it's true).
I rode dual sport events in Central Pennsylvania on my DR650. It was a behemoth for the courses Waaay too big!
A KTM 350 prolly would have been a much better bike, but it was so much fun, I really didnt care about it at the time. What I though was hilarious, was that the bikes were 'sposed to be street legal, but at least 75% of them where trailered in and just had random license plate duct taped to their back fenders! ha ha ha
For the Seven Mountains event, I and a freind of mine rode about 150 miles to get there, did the race and rode back There arent any words to describe the kind of hurt I had the next day

Back in the 1990s I also showed up @ a Dual Sport Event with a true dual sport. At the time I rode a 1992 DR650. I also had a tagged Suzuki RMX250 but the flyer clearly said no dirtbikes. I think I was the only rider on a heavy bike, most riders on MX bikes with a tag zip tied to their back pack. I also spent the following day hurting from top to bottom.
I latered bought a XR650L. I spent a ton of money on the bike modifying it. It worked really well except in the thick sugar sand we have all over Florida.
