Never have, but I'd imagine it's like Palomar Mountain out here; super-popular ride that's over-run with squids on any weekend.

Weekends are jam packed.
Rt 28N out of Franklin is a nice way to get there, if you are in Dragon area give Wayah Bald road a try and also the scenic Charohala Skyway.
That's a photo that brings back memories.

Of the other coast, that is!

That shot reminds me of the junction at Skylonda, heading south on 84 to La Honda, coastal California, on a foggy March or November morning. All of it amusingly close to the Bay Area, one of the largest metroplexes in the United States. As in, less than an hour away.

Or Humboldt County, different times of the year, say Hwy 101 north or Avenue of the Giants off of same. A bit south of "Lost Coast" part of California, which is lost for a reason: seismically dangerous, mountainous, with spectacular riding. Humboldt in-general is deserted most of the time, because there aren't too many economic opportunities for hippies, bums, and those who actually do work (logging industry).

Did plenty of squidly sportbike riding there, way back when. And survived, with body, bike(s), and moving violation record all reasonably clean. Never rode western NC. My loss, I've heard. Maybe one day, sounds like a retirement sort of thing (not too far in the future) when I intend to do a LOT of riding.

Trees aren't the only green product that thrives in Humboldt. If you get my drift.

The Dragon is a bit out of the way for me too, but fortunately we in the Bay Area have easy access to the aforementioned Highway 84 - not to mention 35, 9, Pescadero Road, Stage Road, Mines Road, Del Puerto, Mt. Hamilton, Redwood Road, Palomares, Calaveras, Alpine, Tunitas Creek, Lucas Valley, all those deserted backroads in Marin and Sonoma, Skaggs Springs Road, Lake Berryessa, 175, 128, and 121. And highway 1 of course. Not to mention the Sierra pass roads: 108, 4, 89, 88, 120. And Mormon Emigrant Trail. And highway 49 a.k.a. the "Little Dragon." And the roads farther north: 36, 20, Branscomb, Usal, 96, 299, and 3.

I'd love to ride the Dragon someday, but first I need to ride those other roads enough to get tired of them. Which will probably take me about 400 years.
